DAY TWENTY TWO

For the first time on this journey, I left my campground without really having a clear cut idea where I wanted to go today.
According to Google Maps, I could be home in 8 1/2 hours. Well that's not going to happen but I do plan to be home earlier than projected, probably two or three days from now.
I had never seen Lake Champlain which forms a natural border between Vermont and New York states. If I were going to fast track it home I would drive to Burlington, VY and take a ferry across the lake. I set my GPS to Burlington and headed down the road.
It was another gorgeous sunny day, lots of motorcyclists out on the road. One thing I noticed when I entered Maine, nobody wears motorcycle helmets. The same goes for New Hampshire and Vermont. I jokingly refer to these riders as "organ donors". By comparison, I was out riding my mountain bike one day in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia and a cop motioned me over to the curb and asked me where I was from. I told him Ontario. He explained that riding a bicycle without a helmet in Quebec, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia will get you a $150 ticket. I guess because I wasn't from the Maritimes, he let me off with a warning.
I stopped at one of those scenic outlooks and snapped this photo. It was way more impressive if you were there. You can see the distant mountains to the east.

I eventually pulled into Burlington on Lake Champlain and found myself in that awkward situation again where I couldn't seem to locate a suitable place to park my rig while I took some photos. Here are two pics down at lakeside.

I got out my map and if I wasn't going to take the ferry I had to go around this massive lake, either north of it or south of it. I chose going south and found a KOA campground down on Lake Bomoseen, VT.  The campground was on a hilly piece of land next to the lake with all the campsites nestled in the pine forest.

They also have a nice pool, children's play area and canoe and kayak rentals down by the lake.

This evening I decided that I would shoot for a return home by this Thursday the 8th.
On one hand I'm seeing and doing new things which I enjoy but on the other hand, I miss my home and friends and dear old Winston.
I've had plenty of time to really get in touch with my feelings about losing Willow. Now I have an important decision to make. I specifically wanted two cats because I believe that they need a friend too. Now that Willow isn't there to fill that roll, Winston misses her on some level. Do I adopt another kitten OR shift gears a bit and adopt a puppy. I love animals and on a trip like this I would have my dog with me if I had one. With pet ownership comes great responsibility and they do confine your life at times. I'm leaning toward the dog idea but it must be a puppy so hopefully, after Winston freaks out they can grow and become friends together.
Something that will require more thinking on.
