DAY TWO
I woke up half expecting to be greeted by rain and clouds but it was a glorious sunshiny day that greeted me instead.
Here's a photo of my rig as I was leaving the Thousand Islands campground that shows the "island" behind me. It was a totally unique experience and I've stayed at many KOA sites over the years. Even their wifi was awesome, better than my home in Bracebridge.
My plan today was to cross back into Canada and backtrack a bit to visit my dear old friends Garry and Luanne, who had moved from Bracebridge two years ago to live in Prince Edward County.
I got to the border crossing in good time but lost a lot of time waiting in line to cross. Fortunately, the Canadian Border Patrol was much friendlier and let me pass with no issues.
I finally pulled into Garry and Luanne's home around 1:30 pm. It was a lovely bright day but very windy. I had been fighting this crazy headwind to get there and I noticed I could almost see the fuel gauge needle dropping.
They live in this gated community that offers all kinds of living arrangements from homeownership with a land lease to trailer and tent camping. It's a stone's throw from Lake Ontario and is heavily treed so it has this kind of seashore lifestyle. Here are a few shots of their place.
Both of them were anxious to show off their "beach". Most of the folks who live there have electric golf carts to get around the community. Garry and Luanne picked up a nice used one which came in handy getting to the water. Here we are hamming it up for the camera at the beach. Even, "Sophie", their dog came along for the ride.
After a little sunbathing, talking, catching up we headed back to their place and Garry slapped a pork loin on the Barby while Luanne got the side fixings together.
It was getting dark so they suggested having a fire out in their fire pit. A few weeks ago attempted to have a fire outside with Jim and Penny but we were driven inside by the mosquitoes. Garry and Luanne's area has almost no mozzies so the fire was enjoyed in shorts and short sleeve tops. Very comfortable.
