DAY THREE

When I woke up on the air mattress in Garry and Luanne's den this morning I could tell that it wasn't going to start with a whole lot of sunshine. My suspicion was confirmed when I looked out the window as I poured my first coffee of the day.
The sky was grey all the way to the horizon and the rain was coming down hard.
I had considered staying another day if it was nice so now I decided to get back on the road and head north to the Montreal area.
When I had arrived yesterday I noticed that my right rear trailer tire had lost some air so after a delicious bacon and eggs breakfast, my priority was to pump up the tire.
Despite the rain, I got out my portable air compressor and got the tire up to full pressure.
Garry had to leave for work at the winery and Luanne had a 2:00 pm Paint-n-Pour class so it didn't make much sense for me to stick around anyway.

It was great to see these two again. We always share some good laughs together.
They both suggested I drive back out on Hwy. 49, which takes you right through Mohawk Territory, cheap gas and lots of pot shops.
Before leaving I had called the KOA in St. Philippe de Laprairie, Quebec to check on pricing and availability for that evening. I didn't get away till nearly noon and this campground was just under four hours away so I would be in camp for cocktail hour, at least that's what I thought.
It continued to rain on and off all afternoon. As I drove I could see this massive storm front ahead and then suddenly I was driving in Niagara Falls. The rain came down so heavy that cars were jamming on their brakes and pulling off the highway hoping to wait out this cataclysmic downpour. I slowed to a crawl but stayed on course hoping to drive through it.
Eventually, the onslaught of rain subsided and I was back up to speed when out of nowhere I felt and heard the trailer lurch and then saw debris flying off the right side of the trailer. I had a tire blowout. I immediately took my foot off the gas and pulled onto the shoulder as far off the highway as possible. On closer inspection, I saw that it was the same tire that had been soft the day before.

When the tire exploded, it tore up the plastic trim panel that covers both tires and ripped the metal side panel in front of the stairs going into the trailer. This was going to be fun................NOT!
Luckily for me the rain had stopped for a while so I put on my emergency flashers, got the trailer jacked up, found the spare tire and had it on in about 30 minutes.
Needless to say, I was not happy about the damage but thankful that it wasn't any worse. Tomorrow I will need to get a new tire in case this happens again.
I have heard warnings from people on these RV forums that say the tires that RV manufacturers put on new trailers are absolute junk and should be changed before things like this happen. I will be replacing all four tires soon. This is just too dangerous a situation to ignore.

Soon after I was back on the road the sun came out and it turned into a lovely afternoon and evening. I got to my KOA campground about 20 kms. east of Montreal at just after 5:30 and was enjoying a well-deserved drink before dinner.
Here is a shot of my little office in the trailer where I create my travel blog.
